Fire suppression systems are used to extinguish or prevent the spread of fire in a building. Suppression systems use a combination of dry chemicals and/or wet agents to suppress equipment fires.
Suppression systems have become a necessity to several industries as they help control damage and loss to equipment.
According to the NFPA, the responsibility for inspection, testing, maintenance, and recharging of the fire protection system shall ultimately be that of the owner(s) of the system.
For commercial use, your fire extinguisher’s pressure gauge should be checked monthly to be sure that the extinguisher is holding pressure. The monthly checks can be made by you or someone assigned to do so in your business. The monthly checks should be documented on the back of the service tag.
In addition , each fire extinguisher should be inspected and certified annually by a fire protection equipment company. A complete breakdown and internal inspection must be done every 6 years.
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is the governing body providing the minimum codes of standards for the kitchen exhaust cleaning industry via the NFPA 96: Standard for Ventilation Control and Fire Protection of Commercial Cooking Operations.
